On May 7, he became the first bowler in the history of IPL 2022, to pick up 20 wickets in more than 3 seasons. He left two Indian T20 league legends Sunil Narine and Lasith Malinga behind. 

The leg spinner was at 19th at the beginning of match 52 against PBKS and got his 20th wicket when he knocked down Bhanuka Rajapaksa with fast delivery. With his bowling spell, Chahal picked up wickets of Jonny Bairstow and Captain Mayank Agarwal in the same over. Chahal took 3 wickets in 28 runs with his 4-over spell. 

Chahal is the top contender in the Purple Cap race with 22 wickets in IPL 2022. He is enjoying his hat tricks and 5 wicket haul. 

2. Wanindu Hasaranga 23 wicket

The Royal Challengers Bangalore spinner Wanindu Hasaranga climbed to the top of the most wicket-takers list in IPL 2022. Hasaranga was sitting in the second spot with 21 wickets. And by playing a game against PBKS on 13 May, he did a bowling magic spell and took 2 wickets for 15 runs. 

With his second wicket, he moved to the top of the list and has 23 wickets now. Out of 23, Hasaranga took  5 wickets in the previous match against SRH. He owns the purple cap, after snatching it from the Chahal. 

RCB invested 10.75 cores for this Srilankan all-rounder. 

3. Kagiso Rabada

It was Kagiso’s death bowling skills from South Africa that helped Punjab win the unexpected match against the champion of IPL 2021, Gujarat Titans. Rabada has done impressive bowling in both power play and end overs. In the powerplay, he grabbed the wicket of Wriddihiman Saha who was trying to take the game of GT to heights. 

Then he dismissed Rahul Tweatia and Rashid Khan in the consecutive deliveries. Then he went ahead to get the wicket of Lockie Ferguson. With this Rabada took 4 wickets against GT and is now in the third position with a total of 22 wickets in 12 matches. 

4. Kuldeep Yadav 20 wicket

Left-arm wrist spin is rare expertise in the field of bowling and it's an art that can’t be practiced by all. The presence of Kuldeep Yadav is like that, restoring India’s rich heritage of spin bowling that required the aesthetic appeal of wrist spin. He has taken 13 wickets in six matches for Delhi Capitals. 

The highlight of Kuldeep’s bowling was his four-wicket spell against his previous team. He took Shreyas Iyer's wicket with a beautiful delivery. In his last over he took three or more to kill the knight rider’s run chase. Pat Cummins was trapped under his delivery and LBW with a quick delivery pitched full on a leg stump line. Sunil Narine caught at deep extra cover as he was trying to hit the ball. He was quite hungry for victory against his former employer. 

5. Umraan Malik 

The Jammu and Kashmir players are stealing hearts with their fast delivery and performance in the IPL 2022. He even won the award for fastest delivery of the match in every game he played for his team Sunrisers Hyderabad. 

Besides this, he has set a new record for fastest bowling in the whole season of IPL 2022. Umran delivered the bowl at the speed of 154 kmph against the MS. Dhoni Chennai Super Kings. He left behind Lockie Ferguson, who had delivered the fastest bowl of the season previously. 

He is in the top 4 players on the Purple Cap list with a total of 21 wickets to his name in this IPL season.
